1. Dharmendra

Dharam Singh Deol, famously known as Dharmendra, is an Indian actor, politician and producer who was born on 8 December 1935 in Nasrali, a village in Ludhiana district, Punjab. After winning the Filmfare Magazine New Talent Award, he moved to Mumbai from Punjab. Being the award winner, he was promised a role in a movie but it was never made. While looking for better opportunities, he made his debut with, ’Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’ for which he was paid only Rs 51 ($ 0.70).

His first action movie,’ Phool Aur Patthar’ got him his first Filmfare Nomination for the Best Actor and also turned out to be the first film in which he was the main protagonist.

While he worked with many actresses, his best pairing was with Hema Malini, who he married later on. His first marriage to Parkash Kaur wasn’t successful but he had two sons from his marriage (Sunny Deol and Bobby Doel).Many claimed he converted to Islam to marry Hema Malini but he denied those allegations and has two daughters with her (Esha Doel and Ahana Deol). During the mid-seventies, he has voted among the top 10 most handsome men in the world. He gave a remarkable performance in Sholay, which is still among one of the top 25 Bollywood movies and even got a special Filmfare award for the best film in 50 years.

He set up a production company, well known as Vijayta Films in 1983 which turned to be quite successful after he launched his son, Sunny Doel as the lead actor in Betaab. Betaab ended up winning seven Filmfare Awards, including the Best Movie Award. Dharmendra was an active member of  (Lok Sabha) representing Bikaner in Rajasthan (2004-2009) but his career in politics was cut short when he made a derogatory statement that he should be elected to teach basic etiquette that democracy requires. 

In 2012, he was awarded Padma Bhushan (India's third highest civilian honour) by the Government of India.

Having worked in 306 films, from being a nobody to being one of the best actors of all time, he is rightly known as the "He-Man" of Indian cinema.

2.Karan Aujla

Jaskaran Singh Aujla, famously known as Karan Aujla, is a Punjabi singer, lyricist and rapper born on 18 January, 1997 in Ghurala village located in Payal Tehsil of Ludhiana, Punjab. Having lost both of his parents at the mere age of 9, he was raised by his sisters and uncle. In 9th standard, he met Jassi Gill and offered him the lyrics of the song Range which became quite popular later on. He emigrated to Canada and released his debut song,’Cell Phone’ with Mac Benipal in the year 2014 which wasn't successful. After a while, he started working at Deep Jandu’s studio in Toronto.

He started his career with Deep Jandu and Elly Mangat and went on to write lyrics for many renowned artists such as Gill, Mangat, Gagan Kokri, Jazzy B, Bohemia and Sukh-E.

“Don’t Worry” gave him the breakthrough he needed, with its song video having more than a hundred million views on Youtube. After this, came a series of accomplishments and his songs gained recognition all over the world. He topped the music charts for weeks and gained popularity.

 He is now married to his long term girlfriend, Palak. During an interview, he expressed his desire to collaborate with 50 Cent and Drake. He is criticized for promoting violence and drugs through his songs and many claim that he’s violating the essence of Punjabi music which is supposed to be soulful.

3.Jasleen Royal

Born on 8 July 1991, Jasleen Kaur Royal is an Indian singer, songwriter and composer who sings in multiple languages - Punjabi, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati as well as in English but is far well known for her work in Punjabi music. A self-taught artist, she gained popularity when she was one of the semi-finalists in India’s Got Talent’s first season due to her ability to play multiple instruments at the same time which included playing the guitar, mouth organ, flute, tambourine and keyboard while singing. Her composition of ‘Din Shagna Da’ can be seen playing at many weddings. She received an award for the Best Indie Song,’Panchi Ho Jaava’, which was also her debut song, at the MTV Video Music Awards India 2013. She has come a long way since then and is rightly known as the 'one-woman band'.

4.Jaswinder Bhalla

Born on 4 May, 1960, Jaswinder Bhalla is a renowned Indian actor and comedian who is mainly popular for his work in Punjabi cinema. His professional career as a comedian came into existence with Chankata 88 in 1988 and his acting career began with the movie.’Dulla Bhatti’. He got a PhD in Agriculture Science from Chaudhry Charan Singh University, Meerut and was serving as a Professor and Head, Department of Extension Education in PAU before retiring on 31 May, 2020. He has worked in many Punjabi feature films like Jihne Mera Dil Luteya, Carry On Jatta, Jatt and Juliet and much more. He is married to Parmdeep Bhalla, a Fine Arts teacher and has a son named Pukhraj Bhalla. 

5.Ninja

Born on  March 6, 1991, Amit Bhalla, better known as Ninja by the general public, is a Punjabi playback singer and actor. He made his acting debut with Channa Mereya which also received Filmfare Best Debut Male Award but before that, Ninja worked a part-time job in the telecom sector and made around Rs 2500/month. He is well known and admired for his songs like Aadat, Oh Kyu Ni Jan Sake, Roii Na, and much more. He completed his B.A. from Arya College, Ludhiana. Despite the pressure of completing his education and pursuing a stable job, he followed his heart and is one of the most popular and remarkable singer/actor today. From giving his first stage performance during a school function in 8th grade to singing in front of millions, he has come a long way and inspired many.
