Punjab 1984

Directed by Anurag Singh and released on 27 June 2014, it is based on true events and portrays the impact of Punjab’s insurgency (1984–86) impact on social life. Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Kirron Kher, it is a story of a mother and her missing son. It brilliantly portrays how ordinary lives are shattered in a time of militancy. This is undoubtedly one of the best performances given by both Diljit and Kirron Kher. This movie will touch your heart and you’ll definitely be left with tears in your eyes at the end.


Written and directed by Jagdeep Sidhu and released on 21 September 2018, it is a romantic drama starring Ammy Virk and Sargun Mehta. It’s a story about a man who falls in love whilst studying in Chandigarh even though his marriage has been arranged to another woman. It was the second-highest-grossing Punjabi film of 2018 and has received many positive reviews from critics. B Praak’s music made this movie more magical. Qismat got its name after a 2017 song sung by Ammy Virk and also had Sargun Mehta starring in its music video.

Carry on Jatta 2

Directed by Smeep Kang and released on 1 June 2018, it is a Punjabi comedy film and a sequel to Carry On Jatta (2012). Starring Gippy Grewal and Sonam Bajwa in lead roles, it is the highest-grossing Punjabi film of all time. It is a light-hearted comedy and will make you laugh for two hours continuously.

Chaar Sahibzaade

Written and directed by Harry Baweja and released on 6 November 2014, it is a Punjabi 3D computer-animated historical drama film based on the sacrifices of Sahibzada Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh, and Fateh Singh (sons of the 10th Sikh guru- Guru Gobind Singh). The film's narration was provided by Om Puri and was also the highest-grossing Punjabi film before It was surpassed by Carry on Jatta 2. It took five years to produce the movie. Harry Bajwa spent two years researching and even met the "Dharam Parchar Committee" of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to discuss the details of the film and since it’s prohibited to depict Sikh Gurus in an animated form, their still images were used in this film and the voice artists were also kept anonymous. It was produced in Punjabi, Hindi and also got dubbed in American English. This movie reflects the core essence of Sikhism - love, compassion, and sacrifice.
