Do Your Own Self-Inspection on a New Apartment

You should never take the landlord at their word when it comes to your new apartment. The landlord may not be hiding anything from you, but that doesn’t mean that you are going to miss things if you don’t take a look at the apartment on your own ahead of time. Some landlords are not trustworthy either, and they may try to hide things from you. Even with a good landlord who tries to be open and honest, it is really hard to know how an apartment looks and if the space is good for your needs if you do not take a look at it first.

When you enter into an apartment that you are interested in making your own, you need to check for anything that may be hidden. Landlords can sometimes be really good at hiding information or other problems in the apartment and unless you are really thorough with it. You need to take the time to look around and see what is going on in the apartment, rather than just assuming that it is all good.

First, you should take a look inside the cabinets and on top of the shelves. You want to see whether there are some animal droppings that are there. This can be a sign of a pest infestation and you need to get that figured out and fixed before you move into the apartment. If there is already a problem, then it is only going to get worse.

Another thing to look at when doing your inspection is to check the sinks and showers. Turn on the water and make sure that the water is running clear at the time. If it is not, this is a sign that something is wrong with the plumbing and you do not want to worry about that after you move in. And then bring a phone charger to help you check whether the outlets work. No one wants to live in an apartment where the outlets do not work. Check them so they don’t get swept under the rug.
